We hosted our Fall 2023 wedding for 86 guests at The River Room + Shasta Tent, and it was a dream! As a type-A bride, Serina the venue coordinator was incredible to work with. She was highly communicative, professional, responsive, and ensured every question I asked was answered attentively no matter how small. I chose the (1) venue because it had so much character, and required so little decor to make it really look beautiful, (2) because I loved that we had indoor + outdoor spaces and our guests didn’t have to travel between locations, and (3) we could do all of our photos on St. Anthony Main and not have to bus around our wedding party in order to get gorgeous shots. We rented the Hepburn Suite for getting ready, which was a wonderful space and also gorgeous for photos. If you are getting married there, having one of the suites as designated space for your “stuff” is a must – even if you are getting ready off-site. The Shasta Tent was great for our ceremony, cocktail hour, and speeches. And the River Room transformed beautifully from our dinner to the dancing/reception flip. Our 86 guests were cozy but all fit comfortably. For the reception, we were able to have a DJ, karaoke, and photo booth, as well as keep tables and high boys out for guests who didn’t care to dance, and there was plenty of room for all. The whole staff, the food & drink, the venue itself – everything about the River Room was great. Highly recommend for an intimate wedding!
Having out wedding was at Aster Cafe in their River Room was wonderful! The room itself was beautiful and unique which meant we had very little of our own decor. We had the ceremony and cocktail hour out in the green Shasta Tent and it was beautiful too! Loved that there was an option to utilize both spaces. Serina was wonderful to work with as well. Great communication, knowledgeable and timely. She was great to talk to during the planning process and she was great to work with day of. The bar staff was 10/10 and the food was 10/10 (Jefe). For anyone who is wanting a smaller wedding under 100 people I highly suggest Aster Cafe and their River Room. Thank you Serina and Aster Cafe for the best day!
I am the owner of Celisia Stanton Photography, and one of my clients had a brunch wedding at Aster Cafe last year. Aster Cafe is an amazing venue for an intimate wedding. The getting-ready rooms have huge windows with tons of natural light, which allowed us to capture indoor photos without struggling with awkward shadows or uneven lighting. For the ceremony, Aster set up a tent and chairs next to the building, which had the ideal intimate outdoor feel. For the brunch reception, the inside of Aster’s reception space has beautiful exposed brick and decor that allowed the client to have a reception space with a unique feel without having to add much as far as decoration. And as a bonus, Aster Cafe is located in the heart of St. Anthony Main, so there were tons of beautiful areas nearby for the couple to sneak off for couple’s photos. Highly recommend this venue to anyone looking for an intimate, Minneapolis wedding with a unique city feel.
We loved everything about having our wedding in the Aster Cafe “River Room.” Working with Serina made the day of and the planning go so smoothly. We heard from everyone at our wedding that it was some of the best wedding food they had ever had. The staff was incredible and super attentive. The room looked beautiful with minimal decorations. I could go on and on! We can’t recommend it more!
The Aster was so lovely for our wedding! We couldn’t be happier with having our big day there. Serina was patient and helpful during all of the planning, and the Aster staff were great on the wedding day. The venue itself is so lovely, especially at night with the soft glowing lights, and skyline twinkling through the windows. The Hepburn Suite was such a beautiful place to for all the girls to gather and get ready, and the Redford room was fun for the groom and his guys. Lovely venue, and great experience!
Incredible all around! Dawn helped show us the room and I immediately fell in love with it, and Serina helped us with all steps there on. The room is gorgeous with wood and brick lit with twinkle lights. Great service from the bar, the food was INCREDIBLE, we had a great tasting ahead of time to try the different dishes, just everything was amazing. All my friends keep saying how it’s their favorite spot they’ve been to for a wedding and I’d have to agree. If you want a smooth experience with a beautiful venue, I hightly recommend here!
Our entire process—from our initial tour to our wedding day—was so well planned and coordinated. Before the wedding, we had timely and clear communication from Dawn & Serina, had the opportunity to try the food before we selected a menu, and worked to make sure we were set for success. The day of the wedding, everyone was kind, professional, and so incredibly helpful. I had multiple people remark that any messes were cleaned up before anyone could say anything, and the food was some of the best wedding food they’ve had. We looked at a number of venues online/in person before touring HOK, and never fell in love because of the insane costs, hassle of coordinating caterers, or the pressure to have a massive & expensive wedding. We had a smaller ceremony (60) and added 45 to the reception & it flowed perfectly.
Ultimately we loved HOK for the speakeasy vibes, great communication before the event, the amazing food, and the team that made our day feel perfect. We’d recommend it to anyone looking for a small/mid-size wedding that feels like they just want to be together with the people they love most and celebrate.
We had the most magical and perfect experience with Dawn and the Hall of Kings! From the initial tour to the tasting, to detail coordination meetings and the rehearsal to the actual day – Dawn (and Serina) were really great to work with and absolutely vital to helping our experience be as smooth as possible. Our wedding day so perfect and absolutely everything we could have ever hoped or asked for. I will never stop recommending this vendor and wedding venue.
Buckle up, this is going to be the five-est five-star review of all time. I can’t possibly say enough good things about my wedding at Hall of Kings. For the rental price, I think it’s pretty much impossible to find a better wedding experience in Minneapolis.
Let’s start with the basics. It’s a beautiful space that requires very little additional décor to make it feel incredibly special. We had 109 guests and it was just about the perfect size for that group (I wouldn’t recommend it for more than about 120). Sam, the venue coordinator we worked with was very responsive and helpful. Everyone we ever spoke to was very relaxed and flexible we never felt pressured to make certain decisions. Based on other reviews, we were very excited about the food and it didn’t disappoint. Hands down the best wedding meal I’ve ever had. Everyone loved the specialty drinks too!
The price is incredibly reasonable for what they offer. It’s a one-stop shop in terms of the bar and catering, so you don’t have to wrangle outside bartenders or catering services. You need to arrange your own décor setup if you bring in your own, but that’s standard across most wedding venues, and HOK provides votive candles as well as all tables, chairs, and tableware and they set up everything they own themselves. The Hepburn suite was also gorgeous!!
If you’re thinking about bringing your own music to your wedding and skipping the DJ, this is the spot for you. They have a great sound system with microphones all ready to go and a soundproofed stage for the dance floor. All we had to do was plug my phone into an aux cord and people literally danced all night. The dancefloor also has alternating colored lighting that makes it feel like a party!
Beyond that, the staff went out of their way to make everything easy and fun for us. The venue coordinator we’d been working with transferred to a different venue a month before our wedding, and I was very worried about being assigned someone new. But our day-of coordinator Shane was the MVP of the day!! He let us move our cocktail hour indoors into the empty venue next door when it looked like it would be too cold to host it outdoors. He made setup incredibly smooth for my vendors. He arranged to have sparkling wine and a cooler of water brought to the bridal suite as soon as my bridesmaids and I arrived. He was unobtrusive during the cocktail hour and reception while still helping me make announcements and set up the music. We hadn’t arranged table drink service, but servers made sure that we at the head table had everything we needed all night. Seriously just incredible, incredible service way beyond what I could have imagined!! These people genuinely care about making your day the best it can possibly be, and I know for a fact that that isn’t the case at every venue.
I can’t recommend Hall of Kings highly enough. Deserves 10 stars! Thank you for the best day of my life!
I had my wedding ceremony and reception at Hall of Kings on 9/24/22 and it was wonderful. The venue coordinator, Sam, was a pleasure to work with and was extremely responsive to my and my family’s questions (and trust me, there were a LOT of them.) He was also very helpful when we had to navigate a small hiccup in the day of due to the weather (we had planned to have the ceremony outside but it started raining shortly before the ceremony was set to begin.) With his assistance we were able to make a game time decision about the ceremony location and the day went off without a hitch. We had appetizers, the premium buffet and a mini dessert bar. The food was delicious and the bartenders were skilled and efficient. The venue itself is beautiful and has a lot of character. The space does not need a lot of additional decor to look wedding-ready which allowed us to save on time and costs related to decorating the space. The venue location right on the river is great for photos as well. Many of our guests commented on how much they enjoyed the venue and the food. Hall of Kings helped us make our wedding day better than we ever could have imagined.
